A-Z

You will be taking photo's that represent the letters of the alphabet.  I want you to find an image that resembles each letter of the alphabet and take about 5-10 pictures per letter.

Example:
The letter 'A'
It doesn't matter if it is right side up or up side down.  If you see the letter within the space snap the shot.  Some letters are going to come very easily, but others are going to be very difficult.  After this assignment is done you should have taken about 260 photo's or more.  I don't want you only taking one picture for the letter A.  I want 10 different pictures.  Then you can choose the best on once you have finished taking all of your 10 shots.  REMEMBER: PEOPLE NEVER TAKE ENOUGH PICTURES.  You are not wasting any film, so shoot away.

The letter 'R'

Don't forget to follow the RULE OF THIRDS for most pictures.  Pay attention to the light source and also pay attention to your angles.  Get down low, up high or even upside down to take some GOOD QUALITY pictures.  Don't fit in with everyone else, I want you to STAND OUT FROM THE REST!

KEEP THESE THINGS IN MIND WHEN SHOOTING:

RULE OF THIRDS-of course
SHAPE- what is forming the letter
FOCAL POINT-get closer or zoom in on your focal point.
BALANCE-Does your artwork look balanced?  Is it to empty on one side opposed to the other.
CONTRAST-Look at the dark and light colors next to each other-it will be more interesting if you show higher areas of contrast.
REFLECTED LIGHT-I would like you to try using a white piece of paper to create reflected light if possible in this lesson.
HARD/SOFT LIGHT- I would also like for you to try to use soft or hard light in one of the successful ways they showed us in the video.

Welcome

OPEN YOUR COMPUTERS AND LOG INTO THE WEB ADDRESS ABOVE.

Hello my fellow Photography and Filmmaking students.  Sorry that I can not be there with you today.  I will be in later, but am out this morning to take my son to his first day of Kindergarten.  I just couldn't miss it.  I hope you understand.  I have a few things for you to do today on your Macbooks to keep you busy while I am out.  This will help me to get to know you a bit and see what you already know.  THIS ASSIGNMENT IS DUE AT THE END OF THIS PERIOD, unless you do not have your computer from the tech guys.  If that is the case we will talk on Tuesday about that.  If you don't have your computer you will fall behind very quickly in here.

This year is going to be a fun year.  We have a lot to learn and a lot to do.  Luckily you will be with me the entire year.  I would like to start this course off with teaching you about Photography.  I am going to try to do things different then I did in Digital Photography as I know there are a few of you that have already taken that course.  But I know there a lot of you that have never taken Digital Photography before too.  So we will start with some basics too.

As for today I would like for you to get connected to this site by signing in at the bottom under comments.  If will ask you to choose an account to sign in under and you will choose your google account.  Everyone has a sailornet account that is actually made from google.  So your account should be        firstinitiallastname@sailornet.org   .  Your password is your password that you use to sign into your computer.

1. So first get signed up and save this blog in your bookmarks as you will have to check it everyday.
2. Next you are going to write to me in comments and tell me the following information.
      Blog Post #1:
                             Tell me your name,
                             what grade you are in,
why do you want to take this class,
what is your experience with Photography,
what is your experience with Filmmaking,
and what do you expect to get out of this class?

3.  Once you finish the above I want you to watch the following video on how to take good pictures. After you have watched the movie, I want you to grab a piece of paper near the door area and tear it to the size you would like it-please share paper so we are not wasteful, and using the markers up front I want you to write down what inspires you from the video to want to create, take pictures of or just learn this semester.  You can even draw a picture.  Don't forget to write your name on the back-this is worth 10 points.  Then I want you to tack them to one of the bulletin boards under the long filmstrip near sink 1.  IF THE TACKS ARE NOT OUT ASK THE SUB TO GET THEM OUT OF MY DESK.  SECOND DRAWER DOWN ON LEFT SIDE.  The bulletin board on the left is for First Period.  The bulletin board on the right is for Second Period.  After you finish that you are done for the day.  I will see you all on TUESDAY.  Have a good first day.
