Claymation

GRADES!!!!!!!!!!!!TURN YOUR ASSIGNMENTS IN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today we begin to create our first Film-A CLAYMATION!

Where do we start-Storyboards!  So now we need to create the actual story.  This assignment will have no topic or theme.  I want to see just how creative you can be at this point.

1.  STORYBOARD: Write a GOOD Storyboard!

What is a STORYBOARD?
A storyboard is a sequence of images and words drawn together on a page to form a plausible narrative.
Storyboards are routinely used in the movie making business to 'preview' a movie before a single shot is taken. Not only does a storyboard allow for a dress rehearsal of the final product but by the very fact of being posted on the wall,it elicits early feedback and encourages quick, painless editing, leading to significant savings in time and resources.
     Disney was a storyboarding freak!
A storyboard is an apt metaphor for how we make sense of our own life history.      Storyboarding can be used to sense emergent patterns in our own life story and to envision the life experiences that we wish to welcome into our future.
Try storyboarding the past and future events in your Life!

Disney
Storyboard Inventor: Walter Elias Disney

Here is what you should have in your Storyboard:
  • 10 Scenes
  • Picture of what is happening in each scene
  • Background
  • Characters and what they will be doing
  • Explanation of anything that you can't show in the picture
  • I should be able to see a clear story line with a beginning, middle and end.  There should be a point to what you are trying to tell in the end.
Here is how Storyboards are used with Disney and other large films:

2.  SWAP: You must explain and show your Storyboard to one other person in class before you can come to me and get it approved.  When you are listening to other peoples Storyboards you must give them one suggestion of change or addition to help their story.

3. CLAY:  Begin making your characters and images out of clay.  (I'm willing to look at other materials for you characters besides clay, but you must get it approved by me first)

4.  BACKGROUND: Decide how you are going  create your background (options: draw it, paint it, print a picture for it)

5.  PHOTOS:  Take your photos of your story with your claymation and background completed.
  •  You will need to take a total of 100 shots +
6.  EDIT:  Put your movie together in IMOVIE.
  • You will need a title to start
  • All of your Photo's in order
  • Sound is a must!-Choose a song that best fits your story.
  • An ending title (it can say "The End", or created by: "Your name here")
  • Your Movie should be 30-60 seconds in all.
Let's take a look at some  Claymations.

110,000 seperate shots in this movie.

Time to Animate!

Animation In Adobe Photoshop:
Watch the first video and try to create your own Animation.  If you want to move ahead next you will be adding text in an animation.  There is a link below that explains how to do it.  I don't care what you animate, this is just a practice exercise.  It is worth 20 points.  This should be a one day thing, EVERYONE should have something done when you come in on Thursday, but will have some class time to work on them too so that I can help you out.
Good Luck,
Mrs. Schneid

Your Goal:
1. Show me that you understand the warp tool and Animation in Photoshop
2. Add Text to show Animation with your animated image.
3.  Export your Animation

Christmas Ornaments

Change of Pace for 1 day ONLY!

I want everyone TODAY ONLY to make Christmas Ornaments for the front display case and for my little Christmas tree.  I will print all of them out to be hung up.  We are only working on them in class today only.  We can't take a lot of time on this.  But it is worth 20 points so yes you must all make ONE.

So here is the assignment:

Think of a favorite holiday memory for you.  Or maybe a favorite holiday ornament.  Or maybe your favorite thing about the winter season.

Now think about what pattern or shape or colors could reflect your idea the best.  I have added some pictures for inspiration, but as always I encourage you to look up ideas too.  But don't take too long, you only have about 40 minutes to make this and turn it in.

YOU MUST DRAW OUT YOUR DESIGN, you can not copy and paste one you see to use as yours-that is cheating. Create your design in Photoshop with a white background and it must have what looks like a string to hang it from the tree.  You can add a filter to make it look unique and play with the color adjustments too.  Then save it as a JPEG and drop it in my dropbox before you leave class today.
