Still Life Assessment

I know that still lives are not the most interesting subject matters to shoot but I want you ALL to be well rounded when it comes to taking pictures of different subject matters.  In order to understand how to shoot photos you need to take a ton of photos, hence why I always make you take so many pictures.  With that said, I want you to go ahead and answer a few questions on how your still life photos went.  Remember to write as if you are talking to me in person and WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES.

1.  Tell me some of the aspects of taking Still life photos that you found interesting or different then the other subject matters that we have covered so far.  What subject matter do you prefer most thus far and why?

2.  Now I want you to talk to me a little bit about your editing of your still life photos with Photoshop.  Do you feel that adding Filters to your photos helped to make them pop and how-explain to me what filters you liked and what they did to your photo to enhance it.  Do you see yourself using filters in your photos in the future?  And lastly did you use Color corrections in edited still life photos?  I want to know if you are carrying what you have learned previously into your photos.

  1. I love the fact that we can put our own twist on our pictures. The fact to see the picture in your point of view is quite cool. Definitely the landscape is my favorite. Shooting the water is probably my favorite. Adding filters is very unique considering all the different add-ins and the textures you can add. It puts a whole new view on the picture.

I will definitely use filters in the future considering what it does to the picture. I think it makes a whole new picture out of the one you already took regularly. I did use color corrections in some of my photos, just to make certain things pop. I am carrying the fact of all i'm learning to be helpful in the future. I love this class and photography has always been an interest to me. I expect to continue learning new things in this class to help with future projects.

  2. 1. I like how we view our pictures. For example: the close ups and getting part of the image instead of getting the whole thing to make it look unique. I also liked how we got to set up our own still life to make it look different and original. I like the lassoing but I'm not really good at it and using the different varieties of filters is also pretty cool to use.

    2. When I was editing my pictures I used the filters a lot to make my images look more interesting and detailed. The lassoing helped make that certain part of my image pop and look really cool. I really liked using the black and white filter, but added color to them. I also liked using the faded looking filter, that made my pictures look really nice. I can definitely see myself using the filters in the future because I think that they make the image look a lot more interesting, especially if you have a picture that is really hazy looking or too bright. I used color corrections a lot for my still life because I thought that even though my filters looked good they still needed to be brightened or darkened.

  3. 1. I like how we can decide the way its gonna look just by putting light on the object or shooting from a different angle then where usually normal too. I also like how we can change it with using filters it makes the picture look even more unique.

    2. I think adding filters did make them pop out more. In some of my pictures there wasn’t much light so just by putting a different color on the object made it just stand out. I used artistic the most out of all of the different options. I may use filters in my future to enhance my pictures and i did not use any of the other tools i really liked using the filters than the color correction

  4. 1) I like the fact that we are getting different perspectives of the still life. Everyone is going to look at it at different angles and make it unique. For it being a still life, it gives you opportunities to shoot at different sides and angles and experiment more with it. I definitely enjoy the landscape photos the best. I enjoy having a wide variety of what I can shoot. I enjoy a large background with only one focus that easily stands out from the rest.

2)I enjoyed using Photoshop once again. I enjoyed the filters because it can make one or multiple objects stand out depending on how much you filter. It gives more texture and depth into your pictures. I really enjoyed the colored pencil, tile and the stained glass. I do see myself using filter more in my pictures with a photo that has two or more objects in it. I enjoy keeping the original look to the picture also so I don't care for doing every piece in filter. I still enjoy enhancing my pictures and I started many of my filter pictures with enhancements first.

  5. 1. The different aspects of still life that I found interesting were how you can take an ordinary object like a pumpkin and make it in to something beautiful. Just by tilting the camera or shooting at different angles could make a photo stand out. The things that were different from shooting landscapes were the lighting; outside you had natural light and no matter what it look real and interesting because it had different lines and shadings. The still life you had to create that same effect through out the photo by experimenting with the lights in the room. I prefer shooting landscapes then still life just because the lighting is better and there is so many different ways you can shoot that one landscape but the still life, to me, felt like there was only so many ways to shoot it in order to make it look interesting. Also there is so many different beautiful natural landscapes that you just photograph and they can be gorgeous; for the still life you have to set something pretty up to get a good photo.
    2. I feel like some of the filters did make my photos pop, they added different aspects to the photo that you probably could not get in real life. I enhanced my pumpkin in one of the photos and it looked really good, it made the viewers eye go directly to the pumpkin and gave the photo life. It was obvious that it could never be real but I think that this was the point in some of the filters. One of the filters that I liked was the liquify one. you smeared on of your objects with it and it makes it look like some kind of liquid. I use this filter on my ear of corn and skull which made a really cool design that brought life to the photo. I definitely see myself using filters in the future on my photos; I like the effects that it brings to the photos. I did use the color corrections on my still life photos just because you learn something new, it does not mean that you have to forget everything that you previously learned. You should always use color corrections to correct your photos to make them look better and then it will also make the filters look better.

  6. 1. Tell me some of the aspects of taking Still life photos that you found interesting or different then the other subject matters that we have covered so far. What subject matter do you prefer most thus far and why?
I found them boring all the way through, it just hasn't been as fun as the others. So far I prefer landscapes because I like the natural beauty in the world... it's god's artwork.

    2. Now I want you to talk to me a little bit about your editing of your still life photos with Photoshop. Do you feel that adding Filters to your photos helped to make them pop and how-explain to me what filters you liked and what they did to your photo to enhance it. I think the filters made it pop a little better, I used red and blue filters to make it a little lighter. I didn't really use color corrections, I don't really like it.

  7. Taking pictures of still life was a lot different from the other things we were did because nothing could be in the background you had to get a lot of pictures and different angles from one image of still life.

    2. editing was a lot different this time around because it was strange sometimes when we did the filter instead of it looking really really nice.

  8. I thought it was interesting how lighting effected how the pictures and the way they looked. It is very cool how the shadows effect the way the picture looks and feel.

I not sure if i was using the filters to enhance the photos, I just picked the filters that I thought were cool or funny looking.

  9. 1. So far I found out that still life photos can be a different way of taking photos like making inanimate objects into something that attracts the eye.

    2. I think that the artistic filter made the pictures look the best. No I do not see myself using filters in the future. No I did not use color corrections in my photos. I did not think we were aloud to use them.

  10. 1. I like the shadows the still life creates when the spotlights are on. Using filters to make the pictures unique is a great idea! The purple pumpkin in one of my photos I find very neat. I prefer landscape photos the most so far. I enjoy taking pictures outside & taking pictures of old barns , or pretty fields.

    2. I think the photoshop does make my still life pop. It brings out a lot of different colors & tones. My favorite filter was by far the mosaic. The way it makes each still life look is so neat. In some photos (not a lot) I do see myself using filters in the future. I did use color corrections on my still life photos.

  11. 1. The still life photos i thought were different because they didn't move.like you could get a shot of the trees blowing in the wind but the only time these changed position is if they fell. I enjoyed the landscaping because it looked more alive then just an inanimate object.
    2. The filters made my photos pop by making them stand out. When i turned all the background black and white and made one object really bright brought all the attention to that object and made it look nice. yes ill use the Filters in the future to make my photo more unique. yes, some of my photos had color correction because i thought somethings needed to stand out more or be brought back.

  12. Still life was different because you need to focus on every thing in the picture and it had a background but you could put your own twist on it.

Editing was different but I have some knowledge on how to use Photoshop so it wasn't that difficult.

  13. 1. I like how the still life provided the use of lighting a lot. It really came to be a big factor in how my pictures turned out. I also like how the different angles provided a focus on a certain object or objects. I didn't like zooming in because I wasn't getting the lighting I wanted even with different angles while zoomed in. I have enjoyed landscape photography the best because I enjoyed editing those photos the most. They also cam out as the best final photos so far.

    2. I didn't enjoy editing still life photos really. The filter made the objects pop but I didn't like many of the options. I don't see myself using the filter tool in the future unless asked to. I didn't use any color corrections. Next time I will be sure to carry out that skill in our next assignment

  14. 1. I really like all of the different things that you can do to make your photo look better. You could make some shadows with the spotlights, and just turning the camera a little bit that can make your photo look very different. I like just the small way you turn the spot light you can make the picture look completely different.

    2. I don't really think the filters really helped my pictures all that much. But I do think that I will that I will continue using them further in my life. I did not use color corrections.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Some aspects of still life is that you can take many different pictures by using different angles and lighting. The lighting is very different compared to shooting landscape because there is natural light outside and you have to make your own light by reflecting the light off the paper. I prefer to take photos outside because it is more fun and interesting because it feels like you can take many different photos on landscape then just shooting photos of the same pumpkin.

Editing my photos was pretty simple when i got the hang of it. Filters made some of my photos pop more and some they didn't. Some of the filters i liked were the black and white one and the stained glass. It made my picture look really cool. One of my pictures i made my pumpkin stand out and it was really cool. I didn't really use color correction and i do see myself using filters in the future because it made my pictures pop and i really liked it.

  16. 1. Tell me some of the aspects of taking Still life photos that you found interesting or different then the other subject matters that we have covered so far. What subject matter do you prefer most thus far and why? I don't really like still lifes there not hard to capture the light its two controlled . I did like experimenting with the angles though and lighting / shadows . but a lll and all it was to easy to take pictures in that small space.

I want to know if you are carrying what you have learned previously into your photos. the editing part was fun just took a long time the color correction was easy but it gets boring . The photos that i added filters too looked good but it was to awkward there was nothing natural looking or anything. I liked the plastic wrap filter it looks cool and added a great affect. I would probably use filters later in this class but no more than that .

  17. 1. Taking pictures of the still lives were boring and the best subject that we have worked on was the Landscape photos. The Landscape photos are the most interesting because we got to go out of the class and take photos that we had chosen. Not saying that we did not have the option to that with still lives but with the Landscapes we had a more interesting options.

2.Adding filters to still lives help enhance the photo. Some filters that help enhance a photo are the artistic, blur, and sketch. Artistic, blur, and sketch made the photo more interesting. I do see myself using filters with other photos in the future. I did use color corrections with some of my photos but not all of them.

  18. The thing i found most interesting about the still life is all the things you can do with it.
The editing in it was very different than the others. The filters really helped alot. i can definitely see me using more. no i did not

    ReplyDelete
  19. I found that the many different angles the most interesting
I like the editing of the pictures and being able to select a few things instead of all of it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I really liked to shoot still life photos, because it was much easier, than for example the the letters for the collage.
I had an object witch I “just” had to shoot from a lot of different angles.
Compared with the other subject matters we had was it easier, but not more interesting. Angle and light made a big difference for the photo. It was interesting to try how the light and the angle changed the photo.
All in all the landscape was my favorite subject matter, it was the hardest, because it was very hard to find the right photo and to edit it. But I really liked it.

By editing my still life photos I think I learned a lot in photoshop. By trying by myself how to use it I got more comfortable with it. I can say that I definitely will use photoshop in my future. Also the the filters. All these tools I used in Photoshop made a totally different photo. But I also know that I have to learn a lot more about it too.

  21. 1.  Tell me some of the aspects of taking Still life photos that you found interesting or different then the other subject matters that we have covered so far.  What subject matter do you prefer most thus far and why?- Still life is much harder I think because you have to make sure that everything is perfect and none of the background is showing. I personally like landscape better because it is easier to find areas to take pictures.

- Editing photos in photoshop is really fun and easy to do. It makes every photo unique and make hidden object come out to life. I liked the cut-out filter the best and also the colored pencil. I will use filter is almost every photo now, and also to correct some of the clearness I used saturation.

  22. 1. Tell me some of the aspects of taking Still life photos that you found interesting or different then the other subject matters that we have covered so far. What subject matter do you prefer most thus far and why?

I found the filter feature interesting because I could change specific areas in the picture, which is a very useful feature. So far, I prefer landscape photos because I see beautiful landscapes everyday.

    2. Now I want you to talk to me a little bit about your editing of your still life photos with Photoshop. Do you feel that adding Filters to your photos helped to make them pop and how-explain to me what filters you liked and what they did to your photo to enhance it. Yes, because my photo had a somewhat boring feel before I used the filter. I liked the filters like the glass and ripple effect because they changed the regular objects into something new and different. I will definitely use filters in the future. As for color corrections, I always mess with those first because I love working with enhanced photos.

  23. I found that shooting still life photos were different than our other assessments. In this assessment we got to take control of what we were shooting more. We could control the lighting and move objects around. I made my own set up so I could control what I wanted in the picture and add lighting to it. I liked being able to take control of the lighting, to make my photos look better.
I definitely found the filters useful because they added something to different to the photos. I like adding vibrance to some objects and keep the rest of the photo a dull color so those objects would pop. I liked using some of the "sketch" filters because they made objects look like a painting. I will most likely use what I have learned in the future.

  24. 1) I liked taking still life photos, it was a challenge to set things up in an asthetically pleasing way. It was hard to balance between light and dark colors. I enjoyed taking a different approach to viewing my photos. By taking multiple pictures at different and interesting angles, I believe that I have greatly improved at my photography skills. While taking still life photos was fun, I enjoyed taking the landscape pictures more. I think that in landscape photos are where my talent lies.

    2) I really enjoyed draining all of the color from my photos, I really liked the high contrast I got from taking one object in these color-drained photos and making the saturation high. It really made a good and interesting picture. I used the magnetic lasso tool a lot with my photos. I color corrected a few spots in my photos. I personally am not a fan of photo shop though. I believe that a raw picture is better than an edited one, only because it represents the subject in its' true and natural state.

  25. I like how I had no limits on what I could or couldn't do. I played with filter after filter after filter just being dumb. Putting Colors in and taking Colors out then throwing a wicked filter to set off the picture a little more then normal.

Myself I like filter and will use them but I was not in love with them if that make seances. I more into the stamp and color correction then the filter but don't get me wrong their nice on some pictures more then other. No matter when I learn it or how I ALWAYS carry what I learned over to another assignment because it can only make it look better. So thats all I have to say today so PEACE.

  26. 1. I mean it's interesting to be able to move and place what your taking pictures of. It's all up to you. With people for example, they move and the appearance changes. It's really hard to change people. I prefer scenery most though so far. It's natural and can be really beautiful, and it's really fun to edit in my opinion.

    2. Yeah I think the filters and editing helped make photos pop. I like some pictures as black and white though too. It all depends. I like being able to try things to see what fits the picture itself. I liked the neon filter, with the bright outline against the black background it enhanced the borders and lines in my photo. I don;t know if I'll see use filters in the future. Yes I did use color corrections. I know Photoshop from last year.

  27. I like how you can decide on what the picture will look like, how it is going to be set up. Taking pictures of the objects so far was my favorite. I liked adding the filters to the pictures.

I liked using the filters in photoshop. I think they did put in a part to making the pictures pop and they made the pictures look more interesting and gave the viewer something more fun to look at. I think that maybe yes I will use filters in my pictures in the future. This time I don’t remember using color correction to enhance my photos.

  28. 1.I liked taking pictures of the still life. The lighting made it look a lot better than the past pictures we have taken. It was a little boring though, because you just stoop there and took pictures. The angles made it look better. My favorite so far was the landscape, because there were a lot of different scenes and they looked pretty after they were edited.

2.The filter really made certain objects in my photo pop out. I liked the stained glass window, because it made it look unique. I see myself using the filters in the future. It looked good when I did the color correction and the filter. I like photoshop so far. It makes the photo a lot more interesting.

  29. 1.)Some different aspects of taking still life is angle and lighting, it's important! When taking landscapes and other photos both are important also but lighting and angle really make the picture when taking still lifes. The subject matter I prefer so far is landscapes. I thought it was so awesome to see such great pictures turn out from me taking them! I was shocked.
2.)I think that the filters help but also take away from my pictures. I think some of the filters just make a certain object look too unrealistic and not subtle enough. I used the pixelate option and also the artistic brush. I think I might use filters in the future. Lastly I did use color corrections in my photos.

  30. There are several aspects of taking Still life photography which I found interesting and different than the other subject matters that we have covered so far. One of the things I found interesting was having to work with a group of people, rather than just myself. I don’t enjoy working with other people and would much rather be independent in my photography and art. A second thing which I found unique about taking still life photos was that it was incredibly tedious. Taking multiple photos of the same object is boring and vapid, but allows to get a better shot than taking less photos each of multiple object. I enjoy nature the most of the subject matter that we’ve taken. I enjoyed it the most because I had a nice walk when I went out to take the photos.

I felt that adding filters added to æsthetic quality of the photos heavily. I felt that it made them pop and have a unique look to that of their original which was often much better looking. I do not have a special preference for filters as my choice is dynamic, in the fact that I simply choose the one which I believe suits the photo best. One of the filters that I used was called “Plastic Wrap”. It made the photo look as if there was actually plastic wrapped around it. I see myself using filters in the future to enhance the look of my photos. I used color corrections in my still life photos to help the fluidity of color scheming. I feel like I am carrying on what I’ve learned previously into editing my photos.

  31. 1. I think that still life pictures are harder to get good pictures from because it doesn't change. With pictures on the beach the pictures were interesting because some had dark skies and other had light skies, but with the still life pictures I felt like they all looked the same. I prefer the landscapes because of the variety of pictures that you can get.

    2. The filters are interesting and make certain objects in the picture pop. I like the black and white pictures the best because it is the most natural looking one, and it is not too crazy. I do not see myself using filters in the future because i prefer the pictures without them, but I still think they can be a fun way to make your pictures different. I did use color correction, and I really liked the way they turned.

  33. I like how we can create our own still life out of whatever we choose and how we could use lights to add shadows and change the brightness of the colors in the still life. I prefer taking landscapes photos more so far because you can take a photo of the same place just at different times of the day and have the two pictures be so different. I feel like adding filters to the pictures helps. I like a lot of the filters and can see using them in editing future photos. I did use some color corrections in my still life photos.

  34. 1. I like the angles I am able to take and how the setting and placement of the objects really help the pictures look better. The lighting is a big factor it can make the objects look better and give them more pop.
    2. the filters help a lot. They can make the photos pop and add a better look to them. I still have to lighten some. I still expect to learn more in photoshop.

  35. 1. I found it a bit easier to find a picture in focus and with a good angle. It made it easier as well to keep the whole area constant. My subject matter that I prefer so far however is landscape. Everything looked a bit more natural and gave the photograph a more vibrant feel. I found myself taking better landscape photos than still lives even though I took more still life photos.

    2. In some ways I think they did but in other situations they made the photo distracting and somewhat obnoxious to look at. I don't see myself using filters often. I didn't use any colour corrections in my still life photos. I liked the distortion filters however, they sort of played with your eyes by looking at it and gave it a really interesting look. I probably should've use colour corrections in my photos but it slipped my mind.

  36. 1. I think that taking still life pictures is the easiest assignment so far because we had the supplies for taking the photos in class. Also, we had other people who could help us and we didn't have to take pictures outside of class.

    2. I want to know if you are carrying what you have learned previously into your photos. I am not a huge fan of filters. I prefer to do the color contrast. The filters also were hard for me to remember how to use. I will probably not use the filters in the photo unless we have to.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1. I liked how when I put a light on the still life it made it pop. But if I didn't put the light on it, it looked like it had no life.

    2. I edited them by cutting out things and made that one thing look old or cool. On some I just switched the contrast and brightness of it.

  38. 1.Some aspects I found interesting when taking the still life's is all the different angles. I also liked the fall objects we took pictures of and the up close pictures. So far I like taking picture of the landscape because there are some really cool landscapes you could take pictures of and mine turned out really good I think.

    2. I think when I used the filter it really made certain objects in the photo pop and stand out. I liked using the plastic rap effect on the pumpkins because it gave it something different and just made it look really nice. In the future I do see myself using filters because the pictures turn out really nice. In my photos I used color corrector in almost every photo.

  39. 1. Some aspects that I found interesting when taking still lifes is all the unique and awkward angles. I also like how much lighting affected the quality of the picture, it surprised me that light matters that much.
    2. I noticed, when editing my photos in photo shop, the filter made the different parts of the picture pop. I used the chrome effect on the bones a few times, and thought that looked pretty cool.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 1. I found most aspects of taking still lifes easy to understand and easy to take the photos of them i mean the only thing you really had to do was adjust lighting and angles of your shot.

    2. when i edited the photos i made them really pop i though i made most of them very bright and attractive. I used the air brush effect alot also the water paint and chrome filter to make some dull things pop out and look very different and neat.

  41. 1. I think interesting aspects of still life is how you can set things up, and how just a little change in lighting can make a huge difference.

    2. In photoshop I used a lot of selective filters to items in the picture to show how the magnetic tool can select things and show the contrast between items when one has a filter. The way I had the lighting made a lot of the candle light pictures look soft and cool, like a post card. I was really excited to how they turned out when I used just the color correction, I like it more than the filters in most cases.

  42. I liked taking the still life photos . I though it was fun to be able to make the picture how we want it and pick and choose what we wanted to take pictures of. It was interesting to see how they all turned out with the different light effects.

Filtering the photos were really cool and fun. I will use it in the future because its cool how you can change a photo up so much to change the mood and or the theme . It can really make things pop out and want to you keep looking at.

  43. 1. I thought the still life was different. You could move the objects where you wanted or keep them the same, and get better angles. I thought it was easier to get better angles because we could move the objects wherever. I also liked how we had a spot light and could move the light and move the objects to or aways from the light. I did think it was hard getting the black paper to fully cover the background.

2.I really liked using photoshop for this. Even if i didn't get the best angle, when i used a filter on one of the objects in the picture it really made it pop and drew attention. I liked the artistic filter the best. It made it look brighter and more detailed. I probably will use the filters in the future to draw more attention, make colors pop, and to make a certain object stick out with more detail.

  44. 1.Taking pictures of still life was a lot different from the other things we were did because nothing could be in the background and we didn't have a set target you had to get a lot of pictures and different angles from one image of still life. You had to work with the lighting and a lot of other stuff.

    2. editing was a lot different this time around because it was strange sometimes when we did the filter instead of it looking really really nice i like doing still life's.

  45. 1. Still life photography is very different from taking pictures of people or landscapes for many reasons. One of these is because unlike landscapes or people which change or move, still lifes are perfectly still the entire time you're taking pictures and do not change themselves. You can also manipulate them in any way, shape, or form unlike landscapes.

    2. While editing these photos with PhotoShop did feel a bit unnecessary because of their content, certain things could still be done to them to make them pop. The various filters is one of these things, making the whole image or even just one object stand out. My favorite gilter to use was the mosaic filter, which gives the selection the appearance of a...mosaic.

  46. 1. I really like to shoot still life's, they are really easy to shoot, and edit, and you dont need to be a professional to shot them. I feel that im better with landscapes though, its just simpler, and you dont have to, there is nothing to really fix.

2.Editing is so fun, but sometimes un needed, but they can really make a picture explode, literally.

  47. Tell me some of the aspects of taking Still life photos that you found interesting or different then the other subject matters that we have covered so far.  What subject matter do you prefer most thus far and why?

    - I love taking still like photos, I feel like I can do more with them I can get better angles and set them up a lot better! You can put your own twist on pictures! I definitely think taking pictures of the landscapes was my favorite thus far. I love taking pictures of water, and of the farm. It is gorgeous!

    - I liked that I could make the main point in the picture in color and the background in black and white. Using color correction helped alot, I see myself using filters in my photos in the future. In some of my photos there wasn’t enough light and by using the corrections and filters it made it look a lot better!

  48. 1. Well, the still life photographs were pretty cool because you can catch the same thing on your camera in different angles making it look cooler and cooler with each unique position that you get on your canvas.I like the landscape better because you have more to work with and you can get a beautiful picture of nature.
    2. I really didn't do much editing to my pictures because I liked them the way that they were. I like the raw photos over the edited ones better that's why I only put minor things in whenI edit.

  49. 1. You need lots of different types of light. You also need different angles so you can get the pictures you want.

    2. If you have the right lighting you don't need to edit the picture much because you can already have a shadow effect from lights.
